Keep the Reel Geezers goin' ...

Your Reel Geezers show began with a disagreement. I, Lorenzo, felt we should solicit advertising from motion picture studios, being willing indeed to flavor my opinions very slightly in favor of those who paid. Marcia, on the other hand, with an integrity forged by a lifetime inside the industry, was outraged by my view and put her foot down. No studio advertising!  No selling out!  She prevailed. In the event, our disagreement turned out moot: not only did no studio step up begging to advertise on RG, the goombahs of at least one have taken steps to prevent us seeing and wielding our critical knives on their product. Even more dismaying, no other advertiser has stepped up wanting a simple presentation credit either; surprising, since it is hard to imagine a more sophisticated and desirable demographic than the very large number of you who watch the show, not just nation-wide but world-wide. So, if you have any clout feel free to get in touch.

You can guess what’s coming now, but please read on.

RG’s expenses have been considerable. We’ve bought one HD camera and owe rental on another; bought a large-capacity hard drive and studio lighting, not to mention tapes and croissants and coffee for cast and crew. Heather Finnegan, who is not only our Producer but our Cameraperson and Tape Editor but our entire crew, in fact, since her assistant Jennifer Connolly was forced to leave us, albeit reluctantly, for a genuine paid producing gig in order to keep a roof over her head and food on her table. Heather has worked countless late night hours after the close of her day job, editing the tape from two cameras into the somewhat coherent shows you love, entirely without recompense or the modest fame that has accrued to we Reel Geezers ourselves.

Something must be done. If you wish us to continue this show until the day we finally lose our marbles -- you’ll let us know! -- we humbly solicit your help. In the great classic Peter Pan, when Tinkerbell was dying, the audience was admonished from the stage to clap if they believed in Tinkerbell. They invariably responded and Tinkerbell lived. But that play preemed in 1904, and, unfortunately, clapping doesn’t cut it a century later. We ask for viewer contributions to help pay our expense, any amount, no amount too small (or too big, come to think of it!) And we pledge you this: this is our only appeal, we will never pursue you into your homes with the dreaded Pledge Week.
